Solar energy in Brazil is playing a crucial role in the use of renewable sources in the energy matrix, with over 40 GW of installed capacity. Highlighting further development in the sector and commitment to a more sustainable energy transition, offering cleaner and more efficient solutions to rationing.

Brazil is the 6th largest energy consumer in the world, and Brazilians face problems related to power shortages. Energy crises are becoming increasingly common, mainly due to recurrent mismanagement of this sector, affecting daily residences, businesses, and properties in general.

In Brazil, hydroelectric energy is the main source, accounting for about 60% of all electricity generated. However, when reservoir levels in the country fall below expectations due to global warming, it results in a water crisis. Although the construction of large hydroelectric plants continues at an accelerated pace, few reservoirs can meet current demand.

Blackout and Rationing:

\n\n\n\n

When we mention an energy crisis, we can highlight two terms that are frequent in Brazil.

\n\n\n\n

Blackout: It is a partial or total interruption of the electricity supply. It can affect small regions or states and entire countries. It occurs due to a failure or interruption in energy transmission, ranging from problems in the system to damage to equipment resulting from natural disasters such as storms and floods.

\n\n\n\n

Rationing: It is an important measure imposed by the government, determining a reduction in consumption. It is adopted when it is understood that the energy supply will not be sufficient for the population's demand.

\n\n\n\n

The most famous energy rationing in Brazil was in 2001, an emblematic example of concern about rationing. The national crisis was marked by long and forced power cuts across the country, known as "blackouts". The monthly electricity consumption limit was set at 320 kWh, and if exceeded, the consumer had to pay 50% more on the excess, according to the rationing rules of the time.

\n\n\n\n

Resulting in a sequence of increases in the electricity bill, as well as public fear, which put at risk the safety and quality of life of people. In addition, it harmed large projects that have energy dependence for their operations.

\n\n\n\n

In 2023 we had a blackout that affected 29 million Brazilians. The Brazilian Association of Electricity Distributors (ABRADEE) reported that about 25% of the system's supply was interrupted, affecting residences and businesses.

Solar Energy as a Solution

\n\n\n\n

The solution to energy crises in Brazil and the world is investment in renewable energy sources, promoting greater diversification of the energy matrix. The solar energy system is sustainable, does not cause significant environmental impacts, and does not harm the environment. It can be installed in all properties, from buildings to industries.

\n\n\n\n

Producing your own energy through a photovoltaic system offers numerous advantages and benefits, especially regarding energy savings in the country, which can avoid rationing scenarios. In addition, it provides a significant reduction in the monthly energy bill.

\n\n\n\n

Although the initial investment is relatively high, it is estimated that solar equipment will pay for itself in a period of less than 10 years after installation. The system has an average lifespan of 25 years and requires minimal maintenance. Solar energy represents a strategic solution to the energy crisis, offering greater energy autonomy for the population.
